What Is The “My 3 Words” Exercise?

Several years ago I stumbled upon a Twitter post from Chris Brogan called My Three Words. It’s an exercise when you select a three-word mission statement to govern your business and/or personal life in the following year.

When it’s time to make a decision you should be comparing it to your three words, and if it matches, then consideration should be given to it.

My Three Words for 2020

My 2020 Three Words

2020 will be the sixth year full-time with BeBizzy Consulting, even though I was building websites on the side for well over a decade. In the past I’ve cast a very wide net with computer repair, social media training, websites, WordPress, hosting, influencer campaigns, digital marketing, and even wedding, prom, and other dances with BeLoud Entertainment.

2020 is the year of focus, of narrowing the beam on all facets of business. So here are my 2020 Three Words:

Sharpen

I’ve maintained a firm grasp on many areas my businesses. But this is the year of increasing my knowledge of WordPress, SEO, and other forms of digital marketing. I plan on attending several conferences, seminars and web meetings, as well as leveraging online training to get better at the core pieces of my business.

Execute

I’ve had a few projects on the launch platform that are ready to complete and fire up. These are a few websites, landing pages, and even a couple of podcasts. It’s time to spend some time (and money), and see what comes of it. I’m very excited to get these completed in the first quarter and make some announcements.

Specialize

As I indicated above in the very broad services I’ve offered over the years it’s finally time to focus and specialize. I’m no longer doing computer repair or support (except in special circumstances), not hosting email, doing less social media training, no influencer campaigns (currently), and am re-aiming time and attention at SEO, specialized WordPress, premium hosting and more digital marketing. I’ve even decreased the number of weddings and other events I’m doing in my DJ business to focus better on the ones I’ve booked, and getting a few more weekends off to recharge.

So, that’s the three words for me in 2020 that I’ll be using to guide me through my business and personal decisions.

Chris has created a Twitter hashtag of #my3words to use so we can all see the three words posted by you, me and others. Take a few moments to come up with your three words. Put them somewhere you can see and reference them when needed to keep you on task.
